Helicopter delivers Peter to his audience!

There was a big night for the Ballinameen GAA Club on Saturday night last at the Saddlers Inn in Kingsland when club stalwart Peter Keenan was the subject of a This is Your Life function.   The function was planned for some weeks and although Peter may have had an inkling that it was he who was to be the subject of the big night he was not certain. However he must have suspected that something was a foot when a helicopter arrived to bring him to the function!!   In fact when the helicopter arrived Peter was watching the Limerick/Tipperary hurling match and was reluctant to leave the television! However he eventually relented and arrived at the function from the air – to find over 300 people in attendance.   MC for the night was Willie Hegarty who went through Peter’s many achievements with the Ballinameen club on and off the field.      Peter was an accomplished footballer and we won a county junior championship medal with Ballinameen before turning to coaching when his playing days were over. His work with  underage players was especially remembered on the night.   In another twist to the story there were nine members of Peter’s family present on the night. Peter is one of ten childtren and five of his family had flown into Knock Airport on Saturday to attend the function. Just one member of the family was not able to attend on the night.   A most enjoyable night was had by all and the Ballinameen Minor Club were the beneficiaries as they profited from the takings on the door!
