Headline figures showing double-digit growth in Ireland’s services sector mask a much flatter picture across parts of the wider economy.
The volume of activity across all services was 12.6 per cent higher in June than a year earlier, while the value of services output increased by 15.4 per cent.
Much of that growth, however, was driven by the Information and Communication sector, where activity increased by 20 per cent year-on-year. When Information and Communication is excluded, services volume was up by just 0.1 per cent compared with June 2025.
The contrast was also evident across individual sectors. Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities recorded annual growth of 12.4 per cent, while Transportation and Storage rose by 9.2 per cent.
Accommodation and Food Service Activities increased by just 0.5 per cent, while Wholesale and Retail Trade, including motor vehicle repair, fell by 1.6 per cent.
Overall, the picture is one of a two-speed services economy, with strong growth in some internationally focused sectors obscuring much more subdued activity elsewhere.
