Major title for Marianna Marianna Rushe won the Munster 60 x 30 Under 19 singles title on Saturday last. Marianna beat Ashley Prenderville of Kerry in an exciting final. Earlier Katie Costello beat Catriona Casey, also of Kerry, in two games and Marianna defeated Deirdre Donohue, also of St. Comans, in two games. Leona Doolin defeated Hilary Rushe in two games. Marianna Rushe beat Katie Costello while Ashley Prenderville beat Leona Doolin. In the final Marianna won the first game 21-14 but the Kerry girl won the second 21-5 and in a tense and exciting tie-breaker Marianna prevailed by 11-9 to take the title. In the Mens Junior competition Chris Doolin and Niall Gordon lost in the semi-final to Mick and Conor O’Brien of Offaly. The senior open was won by Robert McCarthy of Westmeath. In the Connacht Emerald A Singles Noel Raftery of Lisacul beat Tim Hughes of Mayo at Williamstown by two games to nil. In the Connacht Community Games Finals there were great wins for Roscommon/Kilteevan boys in U 13 and U 15 but defeat for the girls in the U 13 and U 15. The Roscommon U 13 boys team were Gary Kelly, Conor Egan, Colm Walshe and Liam Costello. The Roscommon U 15 Boys team were Cian Connolly, Mark Healy, Mark Nally, Darren Beatty and Matthew Gralton. The coach of the teams was Aengus Cunningham. Congratulations to all involved. No luck for the girls team who were beaten in the finals. The Roscommon U 13 team was Tanya Ferguson, C. Shanagher, Fiona Tully, Aoife Tully and Lauren O’Riordan. The U 15 team was Shauna Mulry, Sorca Lynch, Catherine Hanlon, Nadine Regan, Shauna Lynch and Mairead Kenny. This weekend Damien Martin and Rikki O’Gara of St. Comans play Ger Coonan and Martin McInerney on Saturday in Mullingar in the 60 x 30 senior doubles championship. In the senior 60 x 30 singles quarter-final Joe McCann on this Saturday at 5.30 pm.
