Hail champions Ericsson FC!

Roscommon & District League round-up   Congratulations are extended to Ericsson F.C who are the new champions of the Abbey Hotel Division 2 with one game left to play. They beat C. P Ajax 4-1 at Athlone. Sean Ryan headed the Tarmon side ahead after thirty-five minutes of play and for a long time they looked like winning all three points. However in the last fifteen minutes of the game Des Boyle scored three and Paul Horkan one for Ericsson F.C.  Ballinasloe Town are through to the quarter-finals of the G and H sponsored Roscommon and District League Challenge Cup following a 3-0 victory over fellow Premier Division side Cloonfad Utd. at Ballinasloe. Early in the second half Henry Loughnane got on the end of a Shane Duffy cross to break the deadlock. Liam Lynch added a second following a quick free kick and with a few minutes left to play Glen Campbell added the third from close range. They play either Ballinagare of Laurencetown in the next round.  In the Ruby Oil sponsored Premier Division, the title hopes of  Moore Utd. evaporated when held to a 2-2 draw away to Heatmerchants. David Donoghue gave Heatmerchants an early lead. Enda Barrett struck twice before the half time break to give Moore a 2-1 advantage. With ten minutes left to play Aiden Hyland scored an equaliser for Heatmerchants.  Castlerea Celtic still have a slim chance of catching the leaders Ballinasloe Town. They drew 1-1 with Kilkerrin earlier in the week and beat Ahascragh Utd. 2-1 at Glenamaddy. Ronan Curran won a penalty kick and then scored from the spot against Kilkerrin. David Fahy got a second half equaliser for Kilkerrin Utd. and they also missed a penalty kick shortly afterwards. Castlerea Celtic came from a goal down to beat Ahascragh Utd. 2-1 at Glenamaddy. Jim Mannion and Ronan Curran scored their goals.  Glen Celtic were beaten 1-0 at home by Kilkerrin Utd. and the home side are now in the relegation area. With twenty three minutes played Declan Murphy scored  from an narrow angle.  With the top two teams in the Athlone Nissan Division 1 not playing, third placed Shiven Rvs. closed the gap to a single point when they beat Roscommon Town 2-0 at Newbridge on Friday Night. Philip Heavey after twenty five minutes and Peter Gilmore  after seventy scored their goals.  Laurencetown were 2-0 up at home to Strokestown Utd. with two minutes left to play. However John Rodgers scored twice for Strokestown to salvage a point. Peter Nee and Ian Jolly had earlier scored for Laurencetown.  Roscommon Town beat Baylough Rvs. 3-2 at Roscommon. John McHale scored all three goals for the Town side. The Ballinagare v Cam Celtic game was postponed.  Ballinasloe Town remain two points ahead of St. Johns Athletic with just one series of games to be played. Both received a walk-over Castlerea Celtic and Moore Utd. respectively.  Lough Harps had a very welcome 2-1 win over Manor Utd. at Ballinlough. Joe Neelan and Simon Walsh scored for the winners.  Shiven Rvs. beat Skyvalley 4-1 at Taughmaconnell. Owen McDonagh scored two and John Doyle and Kevin Murray one each for the winners. Liam Finneran replied for the losers.  In the Casey Ford Division 3 second placed Lisnamult Celtic were held to a 1-1 draw away to Cloonfad Utd. Daryl Connelly gave Cloonfad Utd a 1-0 half-time cushion and Edimielson replied for Lisnamult Celtic with five minutes left to play. Ericsson F.C beat Ballymoe F.C 4-2 at Ballymoe. Cathal Mc Guinness scored two and John McEntire and Kieran Cahill got one each for Ericsson F.C. Billy Kelly and Gregory Grogan scored one each for the losers.  The Loughglynn v Rahara Rvs. game was postponed.
