The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission will investigate the circumstances of an alleged incident involving a member of An Garda Síochána and two members of the public in Castlerea last weekend, it has been confirmed.
The alleged incident occurred in the Roselawn area of the town at approximately 1 am on Sunday morning and resulted in three people being taken to hospital.
There had been two attempted burglaries in the area earlier that night and it is understood that a man was apprehended at the rear of one of the properties.
It is understood that the incident which is under investigation by GSOC occurred later when a Garda approached two people as they were walking home from a night out and resulted in three men, including an on-duty Garda, being hospitalised.
