There was grief and sadness at the untimely death of a popular young student in the Taughmaconnell area last week. In the early hours of Friday morning last 18-year-old Brian Keogh from Taughmaconnell died from meningitis having only fallen ill on Thursday. He was a Leaving Certificate student at St. Aloysius College in Athlone. There was widespread shock as news of the death spread in the local area and further afield. Brian Keogh is survived by his father Noel, mother Una, brother Enda and a large number of relatives and friends. The Funeral Mass took place at St. Ronans Churchm Taughmaconnell on Monday last and there were massive crowds at the ceremonies with Guards of Honour from the local schools and from St. Alyosius College.
