Summer Economic Statement provides for €7 billion in additional spending and €1.5 billion in taxation measures
The Government has outlined an €8.5 billion package of additional spending and taxation measures ahead of Budget 2027.
The Summer Economic Statement, published on Wednesday, provides for €7 billion in additional public expenditure and €1.5 billion for new taxation measures.
The overall Government expenditure ceiling for 2027 has been set at €125.5 billion.
Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris said the tax package would be focused on supporting working people and increasing disposable income, although no individual tax changes have yet been formally agreed.
Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers said the additional spending would be used to maintain existing services, meet demographic pressures and fund new measures and infrastructure.
However, a significant proportion of the €7 billion spending increase is expected to be absorbed by existing commitments, including public-sector pay agreements, increased demand for public services and measures already announced by the Government.
The Summer Economic Statement sets the financial boundaries for the Budget rather than confirming individual measures. Decisions on changes to taxation, welfare payments and departmental spending will be made during negotiations over the coming months.
Budget 2027 is due to be presented on Tuesday, October 6.
