Connacht Minor Football League Roscommon ……………………. 1-14 Sligo ………………………………… 0-4 Roscommon won their second game in the 2008 Connacht minor football league when they easily accounted for a poor Sligo side at Abbey Park in Boyle on Satuday last. It was Roscommon’s best performance in the league so far and they now have one game left, against Galway the weekend after next. Roscommon were on top all through and they sowed the seeds of their success when they led by 1-8 to 0-0 at half-time. Sligo started fairly well but after Darren O’Malley made a good save Roscommon began their scoring spree. Dara Lennon, Brian Murtagh and two Niall Kilroy points saw Roscommon up by four points after 12 minutes. Roscommon continued to dominate and with 23 minutes gone Thomas Hanley crashed home a great goal to give Roscommon the boost they needed with the aid of the strong wind. Three points from Murtagh and another from the excellent Niall Kilroy saw Roscommon eleven points ahead, 1-8 to no score, at the break. Sligo scored their first point 5 minutes into the new half but Murtagh cancelled out that effort with another Roscommon point. Roscommon were really playing well and despite an improved effort from the visitors three unanswered points from Murtagh helped Roscommon to an easy win and a good boost for Gary Wynne’s team ahead of the tough tests that lie ahead.
