Roscommon Golf Club Mens Results of 18 hole competition Sunday 23rd September sponsored by Damien Lohan Accountants: 1st P Farnon (7) 41pts, 2nd A Ely (16) 39 pts, 3rd J Gunn (18) 39 pts, Gross: T Grehan (4) 33 pts. Ladies Result of Club 12 hole competition on Tuesday 18 th September: 1 st Marguerite Farrell 29 points and 2 nd Biddy Quinn 26 points (on last 3).  The match play competitions have reached a conclusion with Marina Dolan defeating Mary O’Gara in the final of the Autumn Cup and Ruth Lennon defeating Paula Keane in the final of the Challenge cup.  The draw for the Winter League will be made at the end of the month so there is still time to get your name in the draw for teams, the list is on the Notice Board. This has proved a very popular competition in the past and keeps players involved during the winter months. Congratulations to former club player Seryth Heavey who was part of the Co Sligo team who won the All Ireland title at Shandon Park recently. This victory is his seventh All Ireland title (3 senior cup/4 barton shield). Ladies: The competition sponsored by Carthy & Associates was won by Kay O’Loughlin 42pts. Club prize was won by Maura Kelly 38pts. The matchplay, sponsored by Anthony Cahill of Supervalu, was won by Mary Colleary. Runner up was Valerie Callaghan and semi finalists were Mary Gunning and Maura Kelly.  There will be an Open Ladies Competition on Saturday October 6th. Rose Festival Golf Weekend: The Rose Festival weekend, which took place on Saturday and Sunday 22 nd /23 rd September was a most successful event with many outside visitors taking part.  The winners of the men’s competition were: Friday – 1 st Fr. Gillooly, 2 nd Michael Clarke, Gross Sean O’Connell, 3 rd Kieran Rosney, 4 th John Caulfield; Saturday – 1 st Sean O’Connell, 2 nd Luke Martin, Gross Liam Walshe, 3 rd Jim McDonnell, 4 th Seamus Mulryan (Roscommon); Winners of the Ladies Competition on Saturday were – 1 st Kitty Harrington, 2 nd Kay Raftery, Gross Catherine Mulryan, 3 rd Maura Kelly, 4 th Mary O’Gara. At the prize giving wine reception on Saturday evening many outside competitors won special Festival Raffle prizes. Winners included players from Roscommon, Boyle, Carrick-on-Shannon, Ballyhaunis and Castlerea.  Boyle Golf Club   Last Sundays Competition was the King Cup which was won by Gary Carty with a score of 41 points, Club Captain Rodney Boles came 2nd with 39, Gross went to Pat Gannon and 3rd To Vincent Egan on 38 countback.  Thursday nights competition was won by Michael ‘twice in 4 weeks’ Costello on a score of 21 (c/b), 2nd place went to Pat Gannon with 21 and 3rd place to Gerry ‘available for hire after next weekend’ Emmet with 20. Thursday nights Mens Competition will be a nine hole Stableford. Next Saturday/Sunday will be a nine-hole re-entry (Stableford). The draw for the Winter League takes place on Sunday October 7th. Open to both Ladies and Gents the format will be an 18 Hole Rumble to be played on three Sundays, (October 14th, 21st & 28th). Best two cards to count. Entry sheet on Club notice board.  In other news Joey Mullaney, Michael Gilmartin and Golf Pro Pat Fay had a great day out in the PGA Tankard Competition at Royal Tara last Monday, coming in with a score of 43 points.  Best wishes to the group heading away next weekend to Castlebar and Claremorris.
