As always timesheet book online. www.carrickgolfclub.ie The very popular International Pairs 4 Ball Competition takes place again this year  qualifying through May, June, July and August play any day with best qualifying score recorded going onto the All Ireland final held this year in Knightsbrook in Co Meath. Just like in the Daily Mail the previous Saturday our Mail on Sunday team took a bit of hammering against Mountbellew on last Saturday, the team of Sean Bohan, Damien Murphy, Noel McDermott, Niall Roche & Noel Sharkey going down 4-1.   Our driving range is now open for play. The range is open to the general public, so whether you’re a seasoned golfer who just wants to sharpen up your golf swing or a complete beginner who would like to ‘give it a go’ now is the ideal time to try.  The visit of President of Ireland Mary McAleese to the club last Friday to unveil a commemorative plaque to our 9 hole extension was a very pleasant and enjoyable evening with a large gathering of Members and family and friends of Members in attendance. Pictures of the evening will be posted on our web site later in the week. Sunday lunch available in clubhouse every Sunday, open to general public at €10 for main course it represents great value in a friendly atmosphere, so come out and enjoy it. ROSCOMMON Men’s Section: The President’s Prize (Helen Sweeney) has reached round 3, the last 32, and all matches must be played on or before Sunday May 18th. Among the interesting matches in this round are Peter Brady v Frank Grehan, Willie Weldon v Luke Daly, Pat Finneran v Paul Hoare, Noel Galvin v Bob McCormack, Anthony Duignan v Kevin Henry and Ray Kennedy v Brian Feeley. The final of the men’s club foursomes took place on Wednesday 7th May. In a fiercely contested match, who went to the 18th, P.J. Moran and Liam McNeill defeated Tommie Gilleran and Bob McCormack. The competition on Monday 5th May was a four-ball sponsored by Golf Works Athlone. The winners with a score of 63 were Eamonn Keane and Michael Keane. In second place were Eddie Keane and Jackie Dempsey also with a 63. David and Ken Kearney won the gross with a 72 and in third place were two of our ‘seniors’ Tony Robinson and Ollie Hannon with a 67. The competition on Sunday May 11th was a singles Stableford, sponsored by McSharry Bros. The winner, with 44 points, was new member Declan Dolan. In second place was Charlie Farrell with 43 points and in third place was Seamus Corcoran with 41 points. Mario Costello won the gross with 35 points. The 18+Club have commenced competitions every Monday evening with the tee reserved from 6pm to 7pm. Ladies Section: The result of the 18-hole competition, sponsored by AIB Bank, on Sunday 4th May was 1st. Jackie Maxwell with 40 points. In second place was Martha Hill with 39 points and in third place was Mary Finneran with 38 points. Ailbhe Farrell won the gross with 30 points. The competition on Monday 5th May was an 8-hole single sponsored by Golf Works Athlone. The winner was Paula Connaughton with 18 points. In second place was Lady Captain Linda Maxwell also with 18 points and in third place was Julie O’Gara also with 18 points.  The winner of the 18-hole competition on Tuesday 6th May, sponsored by George Bannon, Main Street Roscommon, was Paula Miley with 73 net. Paula Quinn won category A on 73 net. Category B was won by Brigid Kyne on 74 net and Category C was won by Frances Penny on 77 net. McSharry Bros. were the sponsors of the 18-hole competition played on Sunday 11th May. The winner, playing off 5, was Ruth Lennon with 43 points. In second place, playing off 10, was Julie O’Gara with 41 points and in third place, playing off 27, was Mary McDermott with 41 points. Mary Seymour, playing off 3, with 30 points, won the gross. Club Teams: Congratulations to the Senior Foursomes team who took 2 matches to 1 away against Athenry. The return match will be in Roscommon on Saturday 24th May. The team members are Sinead Benedetti and Mary Lalor, Rosemary O’Brien and Joan O’Gara and Paula Connaughton and Julie O’Gara. Hard luck to the Minor Cup Team who were defeated by 3 matches to 2 by Longford. The team was Detta Cox, Mary Finneran, Helen Sweeney, Brigid Kyne and Assumpta Lennon. President’s Prize: The first day of the President’s Prize (Mrs Helen Sweeney) to Ladies, is on Wednesday 21st May. There will be no competition on Tuesday 20th May. All beginners’ ladies are reminded that there will be a meeting in the clubhouse on Tuesday 13th May at 8pm. All beginner ladies are invited and urged to attend.
