Sunday, April 20th: 18 Hole Stableford sponsored by Finola’s Foods. Castlerea Ladies’ Golf: The competition sponsored by Waldron Insurances was won by Maura Kelly 37 pts on back 6. Roscommon Mens Section: The Sunday competition, sponsored by Waldron Meats, was won by Brian Sweeney who shot 70. In second place was club treasurer Kevin Henry with a 72, and Seamus Mulryan was third also with 72. The gross was won by Tommie Grehan who shot 76. This was the biggest entry so far this year for a Sunday competition so hopefully with the weather improving more and more members will take to the fairways. Next Sunday’s competition is a mens singles sponsored by Down the Hatch. The preliminary round of the Presidents Prize has now been completed and players are reminded that round one must be finished on or before Thursday April 24th. The quarter finals of the club foursomes must be played on or before Sunday 20th April. Work on the course development has been progressing very well. The new first and ninth greens with the large water feature connecting both are now taking shape, with work almost complete on the reshaping of the seventeenth green. Ken Kearney of Ken Kearney Golf Design is delighted with the progress to date and is confident that the work will be completed fully within the sixteen week timeframe set out. The revised course layout which is being used during the course of the redevelopment work is working very well and visitors are reminded that the course is fully open and playable. Boys junior golf will continue on Friday 18th April from 3pm to 5pm and every Friday for the rest of the year. Lessons will be given by David Byrne, PGA club Professional Work is almost complete on the new club website which is expected to be in full operation by the end of April. Full details will be given in the next two weeks. Ladies Section: The winter league which commenced last October and which was again eagerly contested over the winter months concluded on Monday 7th April when the finalists played in atrocious weather conditions. The winning team which consisted of Sheila Fallon, Mary Finneran and Sandra Kelly defeated Geraldine Relihan, Tina McHale and Ethel Keenan. The individual overall best score of the competition was shared by Marie McManus and Brigid Kyne. Congratulations to all concerned. The result of the 18 hole competition held on Tuesday 8th April and sponsored by Ardcarne Garden Centre was: 1st Laura Grehan with 40 points, Category A Mary Seymour with 39 points, Category B Marina Dolan with 38 points and Category c Bernie Burke with 38 points.
