ROSCOMMON Mens Section: The qualifying round for the Club Foursomes, sponsored by Bank of Ireland, was played in cold conditions on Sunday 6th April. The following have qualified for the quarter-finals: Tommie Grehan and Frank Grehan play Michael Brennan and Tom Hanley. Noel Lawlor and Michael Lennon play Bob McCormack and Tom Gilleran. Seamus Fallon and Dan O’Brien play Andrew Ely and John Rooney. Darren Burgoyne and John Walker play Liam McNeill and P.J. Moran. These matches must be played by Sunday April 20th. The competition on Sunday 13th April is the Mens Voucher, sponsored by Waldron Meats. The preliminary round of the Presidents Prize, which has to be completed by Thursday 10th April, is progressing well, with no notable scalps being taken yet. The first round proper has to be played by Thursday 24th April. With the improvement in the weather last week, work on the new 9 greens has continued. Already the shaping of the new first green has been formed and work is progressing well on the new water feature between the first and ninth green. Hopefully with an extended spell of good weather the contractor can continue to make good progress. It is hoped that we can give a progress update every couple of weeks in the club notes. Final touches are being made to the new club website which we hope to have up and running in the very near future. Further details will be given over the next couple of weeks. Ladies Section: The result of the 18-hole competition on Tuesday 1st April in support of National Breast Cancer Institute was: 1st. Laura Grehan 37 points, 2nd Mary Seymour 34 points, 3rd Marina Dolan 33 points. The gross winner was Paula Connaughton. The Spring Match play was finalised on Saturday 5th April when the singles matches, which were very exciting took place. Going into the final stage the leading team had 5 ½ points. Two teams were on 4 points and the fourth team had 2 ½ points. All the singles matches were closely contested and many went to the 18th hole to be decided. Team B maintained their lead securing a further 4 ½ points and were the winners on 10 points. The team were Ruth Lennon, Aoife Farnon, Mary O’Keeffe, Jackie Maxwell, Marie McManus, Catherine Mulryan, Frances Penny and Sandra Kelly. Team C on 9 points were runners up. That team consisted of Julie O’Gara, Mary Lawlor, June Halliday, Marina Dolan, Laura Grehan, Mary Finneran, Mairead Scanlon and Moira Regan. The competition, modelled on the Ryder Cup and the brainchild of Lady Captain, Linda Maxwell, was very popular and will be a fixture to be looked forward to in future years. The first of the inter club competitions will be played on Saturday 12th April when Roscommon ladies meet Ballinasloe in the Senior Foursomes. Good luck to all concerned. All Beginner Ladies please note that there will be a meeting in the clubhouse on Tuesday 15th April at 8pm to plan the programme for the year.
