Roscommon The final of the men’s winter league, sponsored by John J. Ward Hardware, Goff Street, Roscommon was played on Saturday last. The winning team was John Connaughton, Damien Fallon and Seamus Byrne. Runners up were the team consisting of Barry Hoban, John Cunningham and J.T.Finn. The semi finalists were the team of Tommy Grehan, Ray Kennedy and Brian Sweeney and the team of Robert Hill, Peter McGarry and John McGrath. The final defibrillator course will take place in the clubhouse on Saturday 5th April at 10am. All interested should put their names on the sheet in the clubhouse. Two courses have already taken place and members who attended found it a very worthwhile course to complete. Next Sunday April 6th the Men’s Club Foursomes, sponsored by Bank of Ireland will take place. The timesheet is on display in the clubhouse. The first round of the Presidents Prize has to be played before 10th April. The redevelopment of nine holes has now commenced. The design of the new holes has been done by Ken Kearney Golf Design and the work is being carried out by Dar Golf. During the redevelopment the course will be fully open with only two temporary greens. There is a revised 18 hole layout which is fully signposted around the course. Societies, classics and green fees will not be inconvienced during the course of the work and members will be able to play as normal. Junior Golf: Junior golf for boys will commence on Friday 18th April with lessons being given by professional David Byrne from 4pm to 6pm. One of our juniors, John Connaughton has been selected for the Connacht under 15 coaching panel, so the club wishes him all the best with this panel. Connacht Senior Alliance :Congratulations to Ken Kearney who won the Connacht Senior Alliance played in Galway on Sunday 30th March. Ken went around in 71 shots, which was a remarkable score considering that half way through his round he was hit in the ribs by a wayward shot from one of his playing partners. After a short period of time Ken was able to continue and won the competition. Ladies Golf: Ladies competitions will revert to 18 holes starting on Tuesday 1st April, when the competition will be an 18 hole stableford in aid of National Breast Cancer in Ireland. The second round of the Spring Matchplay competition, which is in fourball format, has narrowed the gap between the teams.The final round which is the singles is to be played on Saturday 5th April between 10.30am and 1.30pm and the pairings, which are in handicap order, are on the noticeboard. Players should make contact with their opponent and take a time on the timesheet.
