Castlerea Golf Club On Sunday August 5 th the leading 21 players will take to the fairways from 2 p.m. onwards. A time sheet for all other entrants is available in the locker room. Please note that there is a cut-off time for the morning entries. Leading qualifiers: Pat Doorey (42pts), Tom Davitt (40pts), Joe Newton (40pts) and David Green (40pts). Presentation of prizes will take place in the Clubhouse at 9 p.m. followed by music and refreshments. Ladies’ Golf: The competition sponsored by Tully’s Hotel was won by Mary O’Gara 40pts. Club Prize won by Valerie Callaghan 39pts. The Cahill Matchplay is now in progress with the preliminary round to be completed by August 9th Strokestown Golf Club Lady Captain Bernie Taylor hosted her captain’s day on Sunday last. Winner Kathleen O’Connell 75 pts, 2nd Eileen Lyons 77 pts, 3 rd Maureen Hanly 77 pts. Mens’ nine hole competition was won by Ollie Killeen. The good weather saw a large turnout on the course and at the presentation in the clubhouse. Boyle Golf Club   Last Sundays 18 Hole Stroke Competition was won by Damian Eames (60), 2nd Charlie O’Donnell (63), Gross Paddy Nangle, 3rd Gerry Emmet (64)  Next Sunday is the Captains Prize when Captain Rodney Boles will be hosting the day.  A timesheet will be in operation on the Club Notice Board. Format will be an 18 Hole Stroke Competition with the top 15 playing a final nine holes. There will be a presentation social later in the evening. Commiserations to the Cecil Ewing Team who were defeated 3/2 by Carrick last Saturday. After winning our two home games the final match in Carrick went right through to the 18th where Boyle narrowly lost out. Team Captain Tom Gallagher thanked all who took part and wished Carrick well in the Final. The King Harmon has reached the quarter final stage. The team is Rosemary O’Brien, Paula Miley, Joan O’Gara, Mary Lalor and Julie O’Gara Roscommon now have two teams in the finals. Good luck also to Aisling Hill who has been selected to play for Connacht in the U-15 Inter Provincials in Portarlington this week and also to Ailbhe Farrell and Ann McCormack who play on the Senior Inter Provincial team, also in Portarlington this week. For the Bank Holiday weekend there is a ladies 9 hole club competition on Sunday 5 th and on Monday the Mens and Ladies Singles – Centenary Cup which is sponsored by the  Neilan Family. This is a new competition with fantastic prizes and a large entry is expected so get your name on time sheet to avoid disappointment. Tuesday the 7 th is the first day of the Lady Captain’s prize (Joan O’Gara).
