ROSCOMMON GOLF CLUB   The results of the 18 hole stroke competition for Sunday 8 July sponsored by Michael Cormican Book Shop. 1 st : A. Lawlor(67pts), 2 nd : N. Lawlor(69pts), 3 rd : M. Daly(69pts), Gross: K. Henry(69pts). Roscommon competed in the Barton Shield on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July defeating Enniscrone and Tuam but defeated by Galway in a play-off. Roscommon play Tuam in the Jack O’Sullivane on Thursday next and in the Cecil Ewing on Saturday playing Ballinasloe. Entry sheets for the Smithwicks Cup is on the Mens Notice Board. LADIES SECTION: Result of Club competition on 3 rd July: 1 st Aisling Hill 38 points,  2 nd Mary J. O’Riordan 36 points. Roscommon ladies had a very busy week in the inter-club scene with mixed results. The Senior Cup team were the leading club in the qualifying round in Tuam. The team of Mary Seymour, Ailbhe Farrell, Anne McCormack, Ruth Lennon and Paula Quinn defeated Ballinasloe in the semi finals but unfortunately were defeated by Galway in the final. They lost three matches but were up in the other two matches when they were called in.  Hard Luck to the Junior Foursomes team who were beaten by Enniscrone during the week and also the mixed team who were defeated by Curragh West. Good luck to the Intermediate Team who have home and away matches against Westport this week. Roscommon is the host club to the Golden Years competition on Wednesday and a large entry is expected.  On Thursday there is an open competition for Past Presidents and Captains and the time sheet is fast filling up.  On Saturday the Crumlin Rumble is scheduled from 1 p.m. onwards – see time sheet on notice board. BOYLE GOLF CLUB There was a large turnout last Sunday for the Presidents Prize with Ballyfarnon natives Sean Heslin and Gerry Emmet taking first and second. Rumours that the Club is to be renamed St Ronans have been denied. Club Secretary Damien Eames led after the first 18 but the lead changed hands in the third nine where both Sean and Gerry came from behind to win the prizes. The full list of winners are as follows: 1st Sean Heslin, 2nd Gerry Emmet, 3rd Rory O’Donoghue, 18 Gross Terry Bright, 18 Nett Damien Eames. Categories 0-13 Charlie O’Donnell, 14-18 Pat Conroy, 19-28 Johnathan Egan. 1st Nine Brendan Gaffney, 2nd Nine Gerry Lavery, 3rd Nine Eamon Perry, Past President, Frank Flanagan, Senior, Martin Higgins.  Student prizes were 1st Karl Keenan, 2nd Colm Cooke, Congrats to all the winners. Good wishes also to Gerry Egan on his new buggy, which attracted great interest on Sunday. Finally thanks to all who made the day a great success and special thanks to Pat and Liz and of course to Phil and Gerry.   Open week runs from next Saturday July 14th – Sunday 22nd. Saturdays competition will be an 18 Hole Ladies and Gents Stableford, with a Four Ball Better Ball on Sunday. There are Competitions each day. CASTLEREA LADIES’ GOLF The competition sponsored by Michael Holland Tyres was won by Kay O’Loughlin 70 nett. Club prize won by Mary O’Gara 72 nett. Gents only on Friday 20th July.
