Golf and weather battle it out!

Storms Henry, Imogen, etc., etc. have played havoc with golf over the last few weeks but there was some action on the fairways and greens of Roscommon Golf Club last week.

  The men’s over 55’s was won by B. McCormack. PJ Moran was in second place with M. Sharkey in third. The winner of the senior ladies was K. Ruane; J. Moran was second and M. Egan came third.

  Also, please note that in relation to the new online tee booking system that members of the committee will be present in the clubhouse on Saturday, 13th of February at 2 pm to demonstrate how to register and use the system.

  Over in Athlone Golf Club, the Captains’ Drive-In of John Burns and Margaret Geoghegan will take place on Sunday, 14th February at 4 pm and will be preceded by a 12-hole shotgun start scramble at approximately 12 pm. To sign up for the scramble members must put their names on the timesheet on BRS, which is now open.

  The draw for teams will take place the evening before the scramble when start times will be confirmed. Those who wish to play are requested to please have their names on the timesheet before Saturday (13th). Refreshments will be provided along with the selection of the winners of the 400 Club Draw.

  AWGS competition, Thursday, 4th February – T. Shaw was the winner with 31 points with J. Burns taking class 1 with 27 points and class 2 and 3 won by T. Blaine and P.J. Martin respectively. J. Kinahan was the best of the veterans with 26 points.

  Wednesday’s Open (3rd February) was won by Eamonn Kelly. The Ladies 12-hole competition was taken by Jean McGowan with 23 points.
