Gold medal for young boxer with Creggs connections

A young boxer with Creggs connections recently took gold in the Four Nations University Championships held in Trinity College. Lee Bradley, whose grandparents are former Creggs publicans Kevin and Mary Bradley, met Tom Hughes of Aberdeen Univesity in the semi final of the light-middle weight contest (71 kgs). A son of Dermot and Gemma Bradley of Ballybofey, Co. Donegal, Lee attends Tralee IT where he studies physical education. In the opening round Lee used his jabs to open his opponent’s defence and a number of heavy rights to the head ensured that he won the semi final by a unanimous decision. In the final on the Saturday, Lee met D. Foster of Galway University, who he had defeated in the All-Ireland University championshps by a split decision. The final proved a close-fought contest, with the opening round going to either boxer. Bradley’s work rate was upped in the second round and once again his jab was used to good effect to pick up points and his solid combinations forced his Galway opponent on to the ropes. The last round saw Foster going for broke, but Bradley covered up well and won the contest by a majority decision.
