The Tarmon Olympian stopped Demi Carter to take gold in the Middleweight division at the event which attracts over 300 boxers from all across Europe.
Meanwhile, there was no luck of the Irish for Roscommon town fighter Sarah Cunningham, who lost out by split decision against the nationally ranked, Yana Tolmacheva in the 132lbs Elite Female category at the Ring Masters (Golden Gloves) boxing championships in New York City last Thursday night.
Sarah (35) became only the second Irish-born female after three-time Golden Gloves winner Ruth O’Sullivan to reach the final of a New York premier boxing competition.
Speaking to the Roscommon People following her fight at Madison Square Garden, Cunningham remained upbeat in defeat.
“Despite the controversial outcome with the judges’ split decision (3-2), I have so much to be thankful for,” she said.
“Being one of the very few Irish born women to reach the finals of New York’s top amateur boxing Golden Gloves tournament on my first attempt, and getting to do that under the big lights at Madison Square Garden is a real accomplishment of its own”.
