Glenamaddy Players have qualified for the All-Ireland Confined Drama Finals in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, which will take place from April 22nd until April 30th.
They will perform ‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’ by Martin McDonagh on Sunday, April 24th. This date was drawn at the All-Ireland draw on Easter Sunday in Ballyshannon with members of all nine finalists in attendance. To reach the finals is a huge achievement for any drama group, and it gets more difficult each year.
Throughout the festival circuit, the group, cast, and crew have been worthily awarded for all aspects of its presentation. The cast have received awards along with many nominations. The cast is as follows: Johnnnypateenmike (John Donlon) ‘Cripple’ Billy (Cian Boyle), Helen (Anna Flaherty), Bartley (Eanna Boyle), Eileen (Marie Coneran), Kate (Valerie Callaghan), Babbybobby (Declan Keane), Mammy (Mary Scahill-Flynn) and Doctor (Colin Callanan). The play is directed by Coman Keaveny and they are ably supported by an excellent backstage crew.
The Cripple of Inishmaan is a strange comic tale in the great tradition of Irish storytelling. As word arrives on Inishmaan that Hollywood director Robert O’Flaherty is coming to the neighbouring Island of Inishmore to film Man of Aran, the one person who wants to be in the film more than anybody is young cripple Billy – if only to break away from the bitter tedium of his daily life.
If you have not already seen this production, it will be performed at Glenamaddy Town Hall Theatre this evening (Thursday, April 21st) at 8 pm. To book, phone 086-2045896. Please follow Glenamaddy Players on Facebook/Instagram for up to date information on further performances. This is a fantastic play – not to be missed!
