It’s that time of year again, when you have to get ‘Running for Ronan’ and help raise funds for research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Fourmilehouse mother Marcella Gavigan is calling on the women of Roscommon to get behind the campaign and raise funds for research into the condition which her son was diagnosed with six years ago. She wants women to take part in the Flora women’s mini marathon in Dublin on the Monday of the June Bank Holiday weekend. Last year, an appeal was very successful and over sixty women from County Roscommon took part and Marcella is hoping to build on that success for this year’s event. ‘We are looking for more people to take part. Last year we did it for Ronan, who suffers from Duchenne MD and it was a tremendous success. This year we hope that it will be as good. It’s a fun day out.’ A bus to Dublin will be provided for those taking part and all money raised will go towards the research into Ronan’s condition. At the moment Ronan, who will be 15 in May, is attending a hospital in England on a regular basis and Marcella is hopeful that he will get accepted on a trial in England. ‘I would encourage local women to take part. It’s a fun day out and it’s for a great cause and hopefully will help Ronan in the process. Anyone interested in taking part in the Run for Ronan is asked to contact Marcella on (086) 8748367 and Muscular Dystrophy Ireland will provide all the sponsorship cards and t-shirts, etc.
