Cahill’s Supervalu Minor Division 3 Final Kilmore 2-9 Kilglass Gaels 1-12 A last-gasp goal from Paul Garvey deep into injury-time secured a draw for Kilmore against neighbours Kilglass Gaels in what was a pulsating and thrilling Division 3 final played out in Tarmonbarry on last Saturday evening. It took a wonder goal from county minor star Garvey at the death to earn his side a second bite of the cherry. The Gaels looked set to capture the title as they dominated for long periods of the game and held commanding leads at various stages in the contest but they came up against a Kilmore team who displayed a ‘never-say-die’ attitude throughout. Scores from impressive corner-forward Kevin Feeney (4), midfield workhorse Diarmuid Connellan (2), wing-forward Barry Conroy (1-1) and centre-back Tommy Cox (1) ensured that it was Kilmore who held the upperhand in the contest at the interval. Kilmore relied upon the relentless Paul Garvey who notched up a personal tally of 1-3 in the opening period to keep his side in touch. They still trailed by 1-9 to 1-3. The Gaels had one hand on the trophy with points from Feeney (2) and Gavin Tully after the resumption but it was the Kilmore men who showed immense character to reel themselves back into contention midway through the second half. Led by Paul Garvey up front, they began to cut into Gaels’ lead. In that period Garvey was unstoppable – kicking 1-5 in the second period and grabbing the all-important equalising goal just as it seemed that Kilglass Gaels were going to capture the title. There was still time for more drama as both teams had chances to snatch a winner deep into injury-time but it was not to be and they will have to do it all over again in the replay. At the end of the game, Ellie-Anne and Katie King presented the Brian King Cup on behalf of the King family to County Board Chairman Michael McGuire in loving memory of their brother Brian, who lost his life tragically last month. Brian, who was a member of the Kilglass Gaels panel, lined out for his beloved team in the semi-final only five short weeks ago. Kilmore: S. O. Burke; G. Clyne, P. Glancy; P. Glancy, S. Heavey, D.
