Gardaí have confirmed that an investigation is underway into a suspicious approach to a child in Williamstown recently.
The incident has shocked the local community.
The Garda Press Office said in a statement: “Gardaí in Tuam District are currently investigating the circumstances of a suspicious approach to a child which occurred in the Williamstown area on Thursday, October 1.
“The incident occurred in close proximity to Main Street, Williamstown, on Thursday afternoon (October 1).
“House to house inquiries have been conducted in the area.”
The gardaí have sought the public’s assistance in the matter.
They have asked for anyone with any information regarding the incident or who observed a vehicle/person acting suspiciously in the Williamstown area between 3 pm and 7 pm that day, to contact them.
