Roscommon Gardaí are appealing for information following a report that an elderly man was defrauded of €400. The incident occurred in the Crannagh, Summerhill area recently when a male called to the door of an elderly man. The man claimed that there had been a car accident involving cattle the elderly man owned, before demanding €400 in compensation.
The elderly man parted with the sum but Gardaí subsequently discovered that there had been no accident and that the incident was fraud.
The alleged fraudster is described as a man in his early to mid 50s, 5’ 8” to 5’ 10” in height of stocky build with thick grey hair. He was clean shaven and wearing a brown suit, possibly pin striped, at the time of the incident.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Crannagh, Summerhill area at 4.30 pm on Sunday, September 24th or anyone who may have seen a man fitting that description to contact Roscommon Garda Station on 0909-6638300.
