Gardaí appeal for information on Castlerea carjacking incident

Gardaí have now issued a public appeal for information in relation to the theft of a vehicle on Williamstown Road, Castlerea, County Roscommon which occurred on Tuesday, 21st of November 2023 at approximately 5.30pm (as reported by the Roscommon People last week).

In what has been described as a carjacking incident, it is understood that the driver of the vehicle was briefly dragged along the road as the thief drove off in her car. The man had allegedly approached the driver in a carpark and claimed that he had a flat tyre.

In a statement on the ordeal experienced by the driver of the vehicle, the Gardaí said: ‘A woman in her 70s was injured during the course of this incident and later received treatment at Sligo University Hospital.
‘No arrests have been at this time but Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry with regards to this investigation. A family liaison officer has been appointed’.
In their press statement, Gardaí appealed for anyone with information on this incident to come forward to them. In particular, they would like to hear from anyone who may have information regarding the whereabouts of a 08 RN registration red Volkswagen Fox hatchback.
