Meet the Ballinasloe players Enda Concannon Manager Enda is a tireless worker for Ballinasloe as both a manager and the secretary of the club. He is also manager of the under 18 team that has won five league titles in a row, four Roscommon Cups, a division Cup and to cap it all, the Connacht under 18 Cup this season. Enda would love to add the Roscommon senior cup to the league title won already. Noel Lyons Age 21 Noel is the trainer/coach of the team who found himself back in the squad this season has played at left full, right full and left side of midfield, winner of two premier league medals, a division one league medal, a division three league medal and a Roscommon Cup winners’ medal. Noel would love to bow out with a league and cup double on Sunday. Barry O’Connor Physio Barry is another loyal member of the club who can never say no. He is also assistant treasurer and trainer of several teams including the ladies senior team. Darren Smyth Age 24 Darren is a very good keeper but has had a few injury problems this season. Darren won a treble in 2006/07. Joby Kelly Age 21 A versatile player, who can play in defence or midfield, stepped up from the B team to play A team this year. Gary Furey Age 26 Gary is a tough tackling left sided defender. He won a Connacht cup winner’s medal in 2004. He also won a league and cup double in 2004/05 and a treble in 2006/07. Peter Keighery Age 28 Peter is a terrific central defender who is powerful in the air, has had several trials as a young player won a Connacht cup medal in 2004. He also won a double in 2004/05, a treble in 2006/07 and hopes to add another cup medal to his league medal this season. Darragh Concannon Age 22 Darragh is an exciting front player who is very hard taken off the ball. He likes to take on a player and scores a lot of goals. Darragh was winner of a treble in 2006/07 and has won a league medal this season already. He also has winners medals with Home Farm, Cherry Orchard and Mullingar. Garry Egan Age 24 Garry is another player who can slot in anywhere. He has even been tried up front. He was winner of a Connacht cup medal in 2004, winner of a double in 2004/05, winner of a treble in 2006/07 and has a league winner’s medal already this season. Mark Duffy Age 27 Mark is the captain of the side and is a tireless worker in midfield. He is not afraid to get forward and gets his fair share of goals. Has won a league and cup double in 2004/05 a treble in 2006/07 and already a league medal this season. He also won a premier league medal with Moore United Robert Brooks Age 21 Robbie is a tough tackling midfielder who is always in the action. He has been dubbed Essien by some of his team mates. Robert was winner of a treble in 2006/07 and hopes to add a double on Sunday, one to watch for the future. Shane Duffy Age 21 Shane is a player with bags of pace and can play at right full or right side of midfield. He scored the winning goal in the final of this competition last season to land the treble and was also winner of a double in 2004/05 and a Connacht cup in 2004. Ballinasloe Town are hoping he has his scoring boots on on Sunday. Emmett Kelly Age 18 Emmett is a striker with bags of pace and a deadly left foot. He won a treble with an under 18 team in 2006/07 and won a league and cup double this season. He also won a Connacht Cup under 18 winners medal this season, beating Athenry in the final. Jason Clogher Age 17 Jason is an outstanding defender who seems to be around forever. He has had Irish trials at an earlier age and has won three under 18 league medals, three cup medals, a division cup winner’s medal and a Connacht cup under 18 winners medal, scoring in the final. Henry Loughnane Age 33 Henry is a top striker who has an eye for goal and always seems to read the game so well. He has won medals with Mervue United and Ballinasloe, including a Connacht Cup in 2004 a treble in 2006/07 and a league medal already this season. Henry was man of the match in last year’s final. Keelan Daly Age 18 Keelan is a hard working midfielder who likes to be on the ball at all times. He was winner of an under 18 league and cup double this season and he also added a Connacht Cup winners medal, definitely one for the future. Niall Stack Age 18 Niall is the captain of the under 18 team that won a double and the Connacht cup this season. He also won a treble in 2006/07. Niall is a cool defender who is good in the tackle, can pass the ball and organises his defence very well. Eanna Concannon Age 18 Eanna is a goalkeeper who is getting better and better. He was winner of an under 18 treble in 2006/07, a double this season and a Connacht Cup. He is also very good in penalty shoot-outs – you never know, his skills might yet be needed on Sunday! Meet the Skvalley Rovers players Alan Grehan Team Manager Alan has picked up a lot of injuries this season and has been forced to enjoy the management role this year. Alan knows what it takes to win, having won it himself in 95/96, 96/97 and 99/00 and will certainly have the Rovers side believing they can win. Tracy has promised a party in the house when Skyvalley win the cup with the speciality being ‘barbeque spare ribs’. PJ Duignan Team Manager PJ is the second most capped player within the club’s history, after Val Keogh, with over 500 appearances. PJ has seen it all before and brings a lot of experience to the management team. PJ was manager when Skyvalley were beaten by Moore in the Cup final after a replay and hopes to rectify this by beating the town this time round. The players have high admiration for PJ. Benny Lynch Age: 29 Goal Keeper The most eligible man in Castlesampson and known for his Christmas decoration hangings. This is Benny’s second year with the club. He is a very consistent goal keeper with plenty to say and known to keep the younger lads on the team out after dark. Benny enjoys the big occasions. Brian Croffy Age 24 Defender / Keeper This is Brian’s first full year with the first team and is currently captain of the team and has played in every game so far this season. Brian has played the majority of his time as right back but when called upon plays in goal. Brian without a question gives a 110 percent. Patrick Clogher Age 23 Defender Patrick is very similar to Brian in that he gives a 110 percent and never pulls out of a tackle. Patrick was part of the panel that was beaten by Ballinasloe in the last final and wants to ensure he is on the winning team this year. Patrick has runners up medal from an U18 cup. Nigel Brooks Age 31 Defender / Manager Nigel has two Cup medals to his name in the seasons of 96/97 and 99/00. Nigel is the second most capped player in the team with 231 appearances. Nigel was also centre half the time Skyvalley won the double. Damien Caulfield Age 23 Midfield Damien is probably playing the best football of his career this season and is enjoying it. This is Damien’s fourth year with the club and he is certainly hoping for some silverware this year after being on the losing team to Ballinasloe in the Roscommon Cup of 04/05. Conor Duignan Age 20 Forward/Midfield Conor, a son of PJ, is very skilful and a talented footballer. Conor can either play wide on the wing or up front. No matter where he plays he will be handful. Conor again is hoping for his first silverware with the club. Conor has four goals to his name this season so far. David Grehan Age 20 Forward / Midfield David is the youngest on the team with loads of talent and potential. This is David’s first year with the first team and is developing game by game. David made the winning goal against Castlerea to secure Skyvalley’s place in the final. Vinnie Costello Age 28 Midfield Vinnie on his day can dominate any midfield by himself and will certainly be up for the final. Vinnie had his best game of the season against Castlerea in the semi-final and should carry it into the final. It will be an interesting contest to see who dominates the midfield area. Cormac McDonnell Age 26 Midfield Cormac is very a strong player and tackles hard. This is Cormac’s first full season with the first team and certainly seeks to get his hands on the Roscommon Cup. Cormac has four goals to his name this season so far with the most important one being the single goal against Castlerea to secure the Rovers a place in the final. Certainly a player to watch. John Galvin Age 31 Midfield / Forward John is another seasoned campaigner with an eye for goal. John had the best game of his season in the semi final and will certainly be up for the final. John brings the Barcelona flair to the team. The semi final game was John’s 150th Cap for the club Sean Fahy Age 23 Midfield / Forward Sean was away on holidays for the semi final and it will be a hard call for the management for the final. Sean is a very talented footballer and certainly has an eye for goal with nine goals already to his credit. Sean was also part of the team that lost to Ballinasloe in the Cup final of 04/05 and hopes to go one better this time out. Sean Glennon Age 30 Midfield Sean was playing in the middle of midfield for the majority of the season until picking up an injury, which sidelined him for 2 months. Sean is a very strong player who can break up the play within any midfield. Certainly and option for the management team to think about with the type of game Ballinasloe play. This is Sean’s first season with the first team as well. Frankie Creavin Frankie is a very flexible player and can be called upon to play in any position. Frankie was sweeper when Skyvalley won the double last time out. Frankie got the Rovers going in the Cup by scoring the 1st goal in the cup campaign against Glenamaddy. Gerald Caulfield Age 23 Midfield / Forward Gerald, a native of Moore United, certainly has speed and flair to offer the Rovers side. Gerald scored the winner against Kilkerrin United that gave Skyvalley three points in the league. Gerard has an eye for goal and is growing in experience. Declan Cooney Age 30 Midfield Declan has been struggling with injury of late but if fit in time will certainly give the management team something to think about for the final. Declan is a skilfull player who is well able to dominate the middle of midfield. He has 12 years in total at senior level with both the first and second teams. Fergal Costello Age 31 Sweeper Fergal, the most capped player with 354 appearances on the team, has seen it all before with three cup medals to his name already and especially wants to beat arch-rivals Ballinasloe town. Fergal is a very steady defender, which is required taking into account the three lads that normally play in front of him.
