Gaels’ revenge to burst Clann’s double?

Western Gaels v Clann na nGael in Frenchpark on Sunday at 1 pm

This match will revive memories of one of the most sensational club championship games of the year at the same venue when Western Gaels were seemingly coasting to victory but were caught napping by a sensational Clann comeback. That game saw three different referees in charge and there were thrills and spills and controversy to the very last kick of the game.

Western Gaels will still be sore about the manner in which they lost out in that match and it should be an added motivation for them on Sunday.

Clann have the benefit of a match against Roscommon Gaels last weekend which helped them get back up on the horse after the chastening experience that they had against Corofin.

This promises to be a well-contested match and Western Gaels at home would dearly love to end their season with a major trophy. On their day they have a team that can match, and beat, anyone in the county. The Creggs, Seanie McDermott, Ciaran Cafferky, Kevin Higgins and Derek Moran have huge experience and will be hoping to lead from the front.

Ultan Harney, Ciarán Lennon, Stephen Flynn, the Pettits and Donie Shine will be hoping to lead Clann to the double. Shine’s free taking is a really powerful weapon for any team to have especially at this time of the year. But it’s been a long season for Clann and at home I fancy that Western Gaels might be up for this a little more and it will make the difference.

Prediction: Western Gaels
