By Willie Hegarty (In association with Roscommon GAA Supporters Club in Dublin) Level one hurling coaching course On the weekend of the 30 th /31 st of March the Connacht Coaching and Games development are running the above course on a provincial basis. The level one course is a adult club coaching qualification and only coaches who have completed a foundation level can be accepted on the course which will be given by Damien Coleman, Damien Curley, Paudi Butler, Corina Tobin and Dinny Cahill. The venue for the course is Emerald Ballroom Balinasloe and Duggan GAA Park. Friday 30 th , 7-10pm and Saturday 31st, 9.30am to 5pm. All hurling coaches in Roscommon interested in the course are asked to contact GAA Games Manager Willie Hegarty immediately. We will be running a foundation hurling course in Roscommon before the level one, date and venue in these notes next week. Goalkeeping course with Shane Curran Roscommon Coaching and Games Development are holding a goalkeeping coaching session with Shane Curran in St. Croans GAA Park, Ballinatubber on this Friday night March 9 th as part of our level one football course. All other club coaches, both male and female, from within the county are welcome to attend and they can bring a club goalie along if they so wish. Fitness with the ball session with Mickey McGeehan On this Saturday March 10 th at Dr Hyde Park Roscommon Mickey McGeehan who is the director of the NCTC in Limerick will be conducting a football session — fitness with the ball from 11am to 1pm. All club coaches, both male and female, are welcome to attend along with our level one coaches. 2 nd year Roscommon secondary school football blitz day On Tuesday March 13 th Roscommon Coaching and Games Development are holding a 2 nd year football blitz for all secondary schools in the county in the Roscommon CBS and Community Colleges grounds commencing at 10.30am sharp. It is hoped that each school will get three games on the day. A first year blitz day will take place in April. Full-time coach Peter Carney will co-ordinate both blitz days. All 8 schools will be notified this week. County U15 football development indoor circuit training The first session for this years County U15 football development squad took take place in Kilbride Community Centre on Saturday, March 3 rd with Michael Gallagher. The times for the next three Saturdays are as follows at 11.45 to 12.45, the players from the South and North. At 12.45 to 1.45, players from the Mid and West are asked to attend. All players are all asked to bring appropriate indoor runners and training gear plus their own towel and water bottle. Players to be ready at 11.45am sharp. The first outdoor coaching session for this squad will take place on Saturday morning March 31 st when we will have our four regions in operation for an eight week period. Roscommon Camogie board fixture launch The Roscommon Camoige Board will launch their fixture plan for 2007 at Hannon’s hotel, Roscommon on next Monday night March 12 th at 8.30pm. Special guest on the night will be Mary O’Connor, director of the National Camogie body. Roscommon CBS take part in hurling blitz Roscommon CBS 1 st year hurling team took part in a Connacht blitz day recently and played three games against St Mary’s Ballygar, New Inn and Loughrea. The blitz took place in the excellently prepared Padraig an Phiarsaigh GAA Grounds and the event was co-ordinator by Roscommon full-time hurling coach Prionsias Killian. Primary School Football and hurling schools coaching A reminder to all our Primary schools that our football and hurling coaching programme will be back in the schools on Tuesday 20th March. We will be coaching in all the 94 primary schools in the county in conjunction with our part-time coaches. Schools will be notified in due course about the start date and itinerary for the first 10 weeks cycle which will also involve a coaching and Go Games blitz day for every school both boys and girls after 5 weeks of coaching. Gaeltacht Scholarship grants As part of our promotion of the Irish language, Coisde Condae Roscomain is offering a number of grants to students who wish to improve their knowledge of the Irish Language. Applications are invited from students who must be aged between 14 and 18 on January 1 st 2007. Each grant is worth 200 Euro. For further information and application forms please contact Diane Ni Duinneacha on 087-9160217, Club coaching sessions for underage coaches completed Recently in Johnstown we completed our coaching the coaches workshops throughout the county. In total 64 coaches male and female attended the four sessions in Elphin, Castlerea, Dr. Hyde Park and Johnstown. We thank the clubs for allowing us to use their facilities and our tutors Peter Carney and Pat Fox who conducting the coaching sessions. U17 football development squad coaching session Just a reminder to all our U17 football development squad players that coaching will take place on this Saturday March 10th in Dr Hyde Park Roscommon at 11am sharp for a fitness with the ball session with tutor Mickey McGeehan. Players are asked to be togged out by 10.45 am sharp. 13 Roscommon GAA VHI Cuil Summer Camps for football and Hurling Dates and venues for all our GAA football and hurling camps in Roscommon for 2007 are now in place. This year we have new gear coming on line with the Full Ireland GAA international rules kit of Jersey, togs and socks along with a School rucksack. Roscommon held 11 camps last year between football and hurling and we are please to announce two extra camps this summer in St Dominic’s for hurling and a combined one in Monksland. All schools have got a timetable of the camps and booking forms will be in all schools from early March. Cost of camps- 1 st child- 60 Euro, 90 Euro for two, 120 Euro max for family.
