By Willie Hegarty, Games Manager Connacht level one hurling course A Connacht GAA hurling level one course will take place in Ballinasloe over the weekend April 4 th and 5 th . GAA football foundation course Roscommon coaching and games development are holding a GAA football foundation course on Wednesday night, March 26 th in Kilbride Community Centre at 8 pm sharp. This is the last of our foundation courses for the year and is open to any coach, male or female, who wants to avail of the course. It will be conducted by our full-time GAA coach Peter Carney. Co-ordinators and development squad coaches meeting On Wednesday night, March 26 th in Roscommon County GAA board offices we will be holding a special meeting for all our football development squad Co-ordinators and coaches to plan the new season ahead. The meeting will start at 8.30 pm sharp. Play and stay with the GAA in May The month of May nationally in the GAA will be known as ‘stay and play with the GAA in May’ and here in Roscommon we will be holding U8-U10 Go Games blitzs at both football and hurling. The Roscommon coaching and games development have 13 centres in football and 4 in hurling organised for the blitzs. Each club within the county will have to host two blitz evenings at U8 and U10 level. All our blitzs will be either 7-a-side or 9-a-side to ensure that every boy or girl that arrives will play in all games. St. Aloysius College win Connacht senior C football title Last Thursday afternoon in Charlestown St. Aloysius College captured the Connacht College’s senior C football title after a tense and tough battle with St. Mary’s, Ballisodare and they will now play Munster champions Kenmare of Kerry in the All-Ireland semi-final on Saturday, March 29 th . Best wishes to Athlone CC in All-Ireland semi-final The coaching corner would like to wish Athlone CC the very best of luck in the All-Ireland colleges senior A football semi-final on Saturday next against the Ulster champions. This is the first time ever Athlone will play at this stage of the competition. Football development squad news We will be commencing our U14- U15 football development programme very shortly. U14 will be in four regions on a Tuesday evening and will commence on April 1 st while our U-15 development squad will meet every Saturday morning in Kilbride, starting on April 5 th . All clubs and players will be notified with all the information by our Co-ordinators. VHI Cul camp students for Roscommon camps Any third level students wishing to work on our annual VHI GAA cul camps in both football and hurling are asked to apply to GAA games manager Willie Hegarty ASAP. Huge attendance at U8-10 football coaches meeting Recently there was a marvellous turnout of U8-U10 coaches at the Abbey Hotel as Roscommon coaching and games development outlined their Go Games football and hurling blitz plans for the summer ahead. Over 85 coaches (both male and female) were at the meeting with 24 of the 26 clubs represented on the night. In a pilot programme this summer we are aiming to ensure that all our young players have plenty of fun, enjoyment and play in as many blitzs’ as possible – playing the game in a friendly environment. Roscommon minors play Sligo on Saturday On this Saturday, March 22 nd in Abbey Park, Boyle, Roscommon minor footballers play Sligo in round three of the Connacht minor football league at 5 pm. 1 st year football secondary school blitz day On Thursday, April 10 th Roscommon coaching and games development are holding a 1 st year football blitz day for all secondary schools in Co. Roscommon at St. Faithleachs GAA grounds in Ballyleague. Full-time coach Peter Carney will be informing all schools of the details this week. 2nd year football secondary blitz day On Thursday, April 17 th Roscommon coaching and games development are holding a 2 nd year football blitz day for all the secondary schools in the county at the St. Faithleachs GAA grounds in Ballyleague. Primary school football and hurling coaching in April We will be back in all primary schools on Monday, April 7 th for the first of our two ten-week coaching cycles in 2008.
