U15 football development squad coaching news All our U15 football development squad players are reminded that the next coaching session is on this Saturday morning, May 17th, in Kilbride GAA Park at 10 am sharp. Go Games primary schools football coaching blitz  In conjunction with our part-time school football coaches Roscommon coaching and games development will be holding 12 blitzs and go games coaching workshops for all boys and girls in 3rd and 4th class at different venues through the county, taking in every national school from this week.  Go Games primary schools girls’ football blitz On this Friday morning May 16th in Kilbride GAA Park commencing at 10.15 am there is a special coaching blitz day for all 3rd and 4th class girls in the four convent primary schools in Roscommon. Roscommon senior schools comfy cafe championship draw The draw was made recently for the 2008 Comfy Café Roscommon senior schools football championship and is as follows:  (A) Roscommon/Elphin Community College v Garbally (B) Roscommon CBS v Abbey College, Boyle (C) Castlerea CS v St. Aloysius (D) St. Mary’s, Ballygar v St. Mary’s, Strokestown Semi final: AVB CVD Roscommon minor team in action on Saturday On this Saturday evening, May 17th in Castlebar, Roscommon minor team play Mayo in the next round of the Connacht minor football championship. The Roscommon coaching and games development committee wish Gary Wynne, his management team and players the very best of luck. Big weekend for senior and junior teams in Galway On this Sunday in Pearse Stadium, Salthill, Roscommon senior and junior teams  play in two big games. Roscommon play Galway in the Connacht championship while our junior team play Leitrim in the Connacht junior final. The coaching corner wish both teams the very best of luck. One of our development squad coaches, Jim Gaffney, is a selector on the junior team. Castlerea CS qualify for Connacht senior league C final Last Wednesday afternoon week Castlerea CS qualified for the Connacht Colleges senior C football league final as they defeated fellow Roscommon rivals St. Mary’s, Strokestown by 2-7 to 0-9 in a hard-fought encounter.   Roscommon CBS 1st year team in Connacht semi final Roscommon CBS 1st year football team play Rice College Westport on this Friday, May 16th in the Connacht colleges B championship semi final in Charlestown at 12.30 pm. They have also qualified for the league final after a thrilling one-point win over Mountbellew last week. The CBS boys scored a winning goal in injury-time to seal victory. St. Aloysius College in 1st year football championship final St. Aloysius college 1st year football team have qualified for Connacht Colleges C football championship final after they had a super win over Balla last Thursday. They now play Kiltmagh CS in the decider on a date yet to be fixed. Go Games U8-U10 football and hurling club blitz evening Roscommon coaching and games development are currently holding a full month of Go Games blitzs for all our U8 and U10 players. Each club within the county will host one U8 and one U10 blitz evening as two clubs come together. The idea is that every players that turns up plays as there will be either 7-9 or an 11-a-side games. Every club coaching officers in football and hurling has received all the relevant information from GAA games manager Willie Hegarty. We want every young player to play and enjoy these games. We will be looking to parents to help out their local club on the evening. TY students ready for club coaching 33 TY students from Roscommon convent, Roscommon CBS, Elphin Community College and Scoil Mhuire, Strokestown after completing a GAA coaching module will now be coaching in their local clubs at U8 and U10 level over the next two months on work experience as part of their coaching programme through Roscommon coaching and games development. They will be helping the clubs out with blitzs and coaching. This is new and exciting venture for all our young coaches who have gained their experience from coaching with our part time coaches in the national schools. U14 football development squad week 5 The first phase of the county U14 football development squad continues every Tuesday evening in all four regions with Ballyforan, Elphin, Ballinlough and Kilteevan the host venues. After six weeks of coaching there will be a blitz evening between the four regions on week 7 and 8. Big numbers of players attended last week in all regions.  Primary schools skills star challenge generates great response The response to our new skills star challenge in both football and hurling initiative which tests the skills of players in both codes has generated great interest among all the 6th class boys and girls in the majority of primary schools.  Each child is tested on 10 different skills with their strong and weak foot in football and weak side in hurling. We hope to hold the county finals in early June and there is a separate competition for boys and girls.   VHI GAA Cul Camp booking forms in every primary school Booking forms for all our VHI GAA cul camps in both football and hurling are now in every primary school in the county. All applications are to be returned to Willie Hegarty, GAA games manager, c/o Roscommon GAA county board offices, 5/6 Castle view, Castle Street, Roscommon town.  Primary schools competitions in both codes underway Action is now underway in both football and hurling as the primary school competitions are in full swing for the next two months.
