Paudie Butler attends U14-15 hurling development session Last Saturday morning week National hurling director Paudie Butler conducted a U14-15 hurling development squad coaching session in Athleague. The Tipperary man took the boys for a brilliant 2 hour coaching session which proved hugely beneficial for all the 39 boys in attendance. This was the fifth time since Paudie became hurling director that he came to Roscommon.  Weather proved real spoilsport in schools football final The weather proved to be a real spoilsport last Wednesday evening for the Roscommon Cumann na mBunscol schools football final at Dr. Hyde Park as it poured down for the majority of the evening making it so miserable for players and spectators. Well done to all players and officials and referees who had to endure the tough elements. Ted Webb Cup County U16 fixtures Roscommon County U16 football team will shortly be in action in the Connacht U16 Ted Webb Cup campaign and their first game is against Mayo in Ballyhaunis on Friday evening June 29 th , followed by Galway CW in Pearse Stadium and then Clare in Phairc a Phiarsaigh. Good luck to our minor team on Saturday The Roscommon coaching and games development would like to wish the Roscommon minor team and management the very best of luck on Saturday evening in the Connacht football championship semi-final against Mayo. The minors deserve a big following for this game, so get the flags and bunting out. Roscommon underage players for Galway residual Academy Connacht coaching and games development are once again holding their hugely successful residual academy workshop for three days 26 th , 27 th and 28 th of June. 50 footballers and 40 hurlers from the five Connacht counties will stay in the NUIG campus in Dangan in Galway City. Roscommon have chosen 10 footballers and 7 hurlers to take part in the development programme. All meeting for all players involved and their parents will be held in the Dr. Hyde centre on this Saturday evening at 5.30 pm before the minor game. Games manager Willie Hegarty and coaching Officer Seamus Sweeney will address the meeting. Senior Hurling team in action Roscommon senior hurling team commence their Nicky Rackard cup campaign on this Saturday as they play Fermanagh in the first round in Athleague. Good luck to all concerned on the day. Connacht hurling U14 feile in Galway This year’s Connacht U14 hurling feile will take place in NUIG Dangan on this Saturday June 23 rd and Roscommon will have two U14 hurling development squad teams taking part on the day. All players will be notified about arrangements during the week. Minor 7-aside blitz evening in Elphin We will be holding a minor 7 a-side blitz evening for 8 teams from north Roscommon on Friday evening 22nd June in Orchard Park, Elphin commencing at 6.45 pm sharp which is being organised by our full-time coach Peter Carney. It is hoped Elphin, Tulsk, Strokestown, Kilmore, Shannon Gaels, Western Gaels, Boyle and Ballinameen will take part as each team will have a squad of 10 players with two groups of four with each side getting three matches on the evening. U15 football development squad County panel Roscommon Coaching and games development have picked a squad of 40 players which shall consists of two panels of 20 and training will commence for all players on Tuesday evening June 26 th in Kilbride at 7.15pm sharp. All players will be notified by their co-ordinators over the next few days. Training will be twice monthly over the summer months and already Tyrone, Sligo and Longford are looking for challenge games. U14 football development squad County panel Roscommon coaching and games development have picked a squad of 40 players which shall consist of two panels and training will commence for all players on this Tuesday evening June 19 th in Kilbride at 7.15pm sharp. All players will be notified by their co-ordinators this week and training will be twice monthly during the summer. Players must bring their own water and fruit to the sessions. Hurling helmets for schools and clubs If any primary schools or hurling clubs wish to purchase helmets at cost price they can do so by contacting Games Manager Willie Hegarty at the Roscommon GAA County board office. Junvile helmets cost €50 while adult cost €60. Sliothar deals for schools and clubs The Coaching and Games Development are now in a position to offer sliothars to schools and clubs at €5 each or €60 a dozen. Please contact Games Manager Willie Hegarty for more information. An adult sliothar will also cost the same price. Hurleys for schools and clubs We are also in the same position to offer hurlers as we have a company who can supply us with Hurleys for underage players. 32′ will cost €16, 34′ at €18. Coaching DVDs for Sale The Roscommon Coaching and Games Development have some excellent coaching DVDs for sale from their coaching workshops held over the past few months, coaching the tackle with Des Newton, fitness with the ball by Mickey McGeehan, forward play by Martin McHugh and a coaching session with All-Ireland winning Kerry manager Jack O Connor.    All DVDs cost €10 and can be purchased from Games Manager Willie Hegarty at the Roscommon GAA County Board Office or by contacting coaching officer Seamus Sweeney.
