Funeral of Roscommon man killed in NZ to take place on Monday

The funeral of a Roscommon man who died following a road traffic accident in New Zealand earlier this month will take place on Monday (February 28th) at Our Lady of the Wayside Church in Clonown.

Declan Curley (37), Clonark, Athlone, died after being struck by a vehicle in the Wellington area early on Saturday morning local time on February 12th.

The popular Roscommon man had been working as a credit control manager in Wellington and had previously spent 12 years working in the Irish Public Sector.

As of Wednesday (yesterday) over €78,000 has so far been raised to help bring Mr. Curley home after a fundraising campaign was set up in the aftermath of the tragedy (https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/support-in-getting-declan-back-home).

Mr. Curley is sadly missed by his heartbroken partner Sam and her daughter Mia, his loving parents Tommy and Rena, extended family, and a wide circle of friends in Ireland and New Zealand.

Funeral mass will take place at Our Lady of the Wayside Church, Clonown at 12 noon on Monday followed by cremation at Shannon Crematorium at 3.30 pm.

Posting on rip.ie, Mr. Curley’s family thanked the public for their support: “The family wish to express our gratitude for the outpouring of condolences on the passing of our dear Declan. We hope you can all understand the need for privacy at this time while we say goodbye to Declan. Your many messages of support and love are giving us much comfort at this difficult time,” the message stated.
