Funeral for siblings who tragically lost their lives takes place today

The funeral Mass of 50 year old Lecarrow man Dessie Byrne and his sister Muriel Eriksson, aged 62, will take place this afternoon.

The siblings tragically lost their lives after getting into difficulty in the water at Ballybunnion beach, Co. Kerry, last Thursday evening. They had been holidaying in the area.

Originally from Baylough, Athlone, Mr. Byrne had been living in Lecarrow for many years and his sister was home on holidays from Malmo in Sweden where she had been living.

The siblings reposed at Mr. Byrne’s home in Lecarrow yesterday with their removal taking place this morning, August 9th, to St John’s Church, Lecarrow, arriving for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon.

Mr. Byrne’s burial will take place afterwards in the local cemetery, while Mrs. Eriksson’s cremation will take place at the Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan on Wednesday, August 10th, at 4 pm.

The Eriksson and Byrne families have thanked the public for their kindness and support during this difficult time. Condolences can be left on
