Funding to help victims of domestic and sexual violence

Senator Frank Feighan has welcomed funding for local organisations which are providing support for victims of domestic and sexual violence. The local groups were among 57 organisations nationally who benefitted from an annual funding allocation of €1.712m, announced by Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan.

The local organisations who received funding for their valuable work are: Roscommon Safe Link in Boyle which offers information, support and counselling to women who have experienced domestic violence and abusive situations; Hope Trust, which provides counselling services for victims of crime in Galway and Roscommon; The Domestic Violence Advocacy Centre in Sligo which provides support and assistance in Sligo, Leitrim and West Cavan; and Esker House Women’s Refuge, which provides vital services in Westmeath and Roscommon.

Senator Feighan said: “Supports provided by these organisations include the provision of practical information; emotional support; court accompaniment; accompaniment to Garda interviews; accompaniment to sexual assault treatment units; counselling and referral to other services”.
