Funding was recently granted to two local groups under the Scheme of Community Support for older people The grants of €2,312 to Fairymount Community Development Co. Ltd, and €2,495 for Strokestown Active Age Group were welcomed by Deputy Michael Finneran, who said, ‘The purpose of this grant scheme is to provide support for older people to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. The funding covers the provision of alarms, security equipment, and window and door fittings.’ He added: ‘The funding is administered by local voluntary organisations and I would like to commend the work of the Fairymount Community Development Co, the Strokestown Active Age Group, and of all the voluntary organisations in operation in the county. Their spirit of volunteerism contributes greatly to our local communities.’
