An allocation of €14,000 will be awarded to Roscommon County Council for enhancements to Castlerea Demesne Playground.
Minister Denis Naughten and Fine Gael Senator Frank Feighan have both welcomed the news.
Minister Naughten said: “This significant grant from the Department of Children and Youth Affairs under the leadership of my Independent Cabinet colleague Minister Katherine Zappone, will be used to create new and creative play and recreation areas and upgrade existing play areas.”
Minister Naughten also confirmed that Galway County Council was awarded €11,000 for the provision of accessibility upgrades to playgrounds in Tuam and Ballinasloe.
Senator Feighan said: “I am delighted Roscommon County Council has received this allocation for the enhancement of the playground in Castlerea.”
Cllr. Paschal Fitzmaurice has also welcomed the funding.
He said: “This funding will help with the refurbishment of the playground and Roscommon County Council have also given me a commitment to match the funding.
“I want to thank the Council Team who worked on this application and kept me informed of its progress. This playground and the mini park area will provide a very safe and fantastic area for all our kids. The new car park planned at the rear of the pool will also help both facilities. It is planned to have the works completed by April 2018.”
