Capital funding of €300,000 for new enterprise centres in Roscommon and Carrick-on-Shannon was approved this week. €300,000 was allocated to Roscommon IT & Knowledge Centre Ltd., C/o Abbey Hotel, Roscommon for the building of a new enterprise centre and a further €300,000 was allocated to Leitrim County Enterprise Fund in Carrick-on-Shannon for the creation of a new enterprise centre there. The funding will be used for the development of a new enterprise centre at Racecourse Road, Roscommon. The new centre is promoted by Roscommon Chamber of Commerce, with assistance from Roscommon County Council. The allocations were announced by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mr. Micheál Martin TD on Monday last. Making the announcement, he said, ‘Community enterprise centres have a real and measurable impact on the economic and social development of local communities, not least through employment creation. Findings from a survey conducted by Enterprise Ireland report that in 2007, the 105 completed community enterprise centres in Ireland supported almost 1,000 enterprises that in turn employ 4,850 people,’ the Minister concluded.
