Farmers in County Roscommon have welcomed the announcement of a new funding programme that will equip small holders in the region to face the many challenges and issues that are indicative of running a farm today. The BMW Smallholder Skillnet Training Programme is a new network support structure and training programme to enhance the skills and knowledge base of the smallholder within the BMW region. Providing innovative and flexible training, the programme aims to deliver local, low cost training that makes sense and makes a difference to farming life and business. Commenting, Gerry Gallagher of BMW Small Holder Skillnet said, ‘We are delighted that our funding application was successful and we are now rolling out a very exciting programme of on and off farm training topics unique to the county’. The 2008 programme of training will be delivered locally and consists of training in a variety of skills. Courses are flexible and will be arranged to meet the needs of farmers.
