Fun for all! Runs, walks and swim over festive period

For those wishing to blow off the cobwebs over the festive period, there is no shortage of runs, walks and swims throughout Co Roscommon.

The 12th annual Roscommon Town Christmas Goal Mile will start at 1.30 pm from the Square on Christmas Day.

The same day, around 30 hardy souls will leap into the icy waters of the Shannon at Lanesboro at about 12.30 pm in an annual event.

For those who aren’t quite up for the swim, the 25th annual run/walk will take place from nearby Newtowncashel to Lanesboro, also on Christmas Day. The walk will start at 11.45 am, while the runners will set off a half an hour later.

This event is in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

At least two events will take place on St Stephen’s Day – the 21st annual Barrie Harris Memorial (10k) Walk at Creggs at 12.30 pm, and the Ballintubber St Stephen’s Day Walk/Run at 1.30 pm.

There are 5k and 10k distances for this event, which starts and finishes at the west Roscommon village.

Finally, on New Year’s Day, the 12th annual Leitrim Goal Mile will take place at Bornacoola GAA pitch, near Rooskey, at 2 pm.
