Cllr. Liam Callaghan has expressed his concern with the news that Frenchpark Post Office is set to close when the current post mistress Yvonne Mitchell retires.
Cllr. Callaghan said “the Mitchell family have provided a great service in Frenchpark with both their shop and post office over the years. If the post office closes it will have a serious impact on the footfall in the village and many of the local business will struggle to survive.”
Cllr. Callaghan will be seeking a update from An Post and demanding that the contract be readvertised especially when there is a suitable premises available in the town.
“Frenchpark Post Office brings in a large catchment area and the idea that customers will have to relocate to Castlerea or Ballaghaderreen is totally unacceptable at this time. This decision is also at odds with An Post’s policy “New Vision for Rural Communities.” He concluded
