There will be free music, song and sean-nós dance workshops in the Community Centre, Castlecoote on Easter Monday in conjunction with Fleadh Cheoil Ros Comáin in Castlecoote-Fuerty. They will be held, courtesy of ‘Éire Ildánach’ or ‘Creative Ireland’, a Government initiative, celebrating ‘Cruinniú na Cásca’ and administered by Roscommon Co. Council.
These workshops will be open and welcoming to people of all levels of competencies and skills and both young and old will learn and improve their proficiency in an enjoyable, entertaining and fun way, with friends and family.
Streams covered will be: Uilleann Pipes: Andrew Newland; Button Accordion: Michael Cully; Songs: Anita Broderick; Concert Flute: John Wynne; Sean-Nós Dancing: tutor not yet selected.
It is planned to have two modules on the Monday at 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm and hopefully a short tutors’ concert at the end. Food will be available in Castlecoote all day on both Sunday and Monday.
For obvious reasons, including planning, etc. it will be necessary to advance-book places for the free workshops on or before Saturday, 9th of April. This can be done via email to ccebill@gmail.com, or by text to 086 3345817/086 2412247, stating your full name, address, contact details, stream interested in, and level of competency. Age is not a barrier but a parent should accompany younger participants.
Fleadh competitors should note that competitions for all ensembles, i.e. duets, trios, céilí bands and grúpai ceoil, plus all dancing, including sean-nós dancing, will take place from mid-afternoon on the Sunday. All solos will take place on Easter Monday, starting at approximately 10 am.
Ireland’s most revered flute player, Roscommon’s own Patsy Hanly, at 3 pm approx. on Easter Sunday, will perform the Official Opening. Those who would wish to perform on the gig-rig, which starts at 2.30 pm on Sunday, should use the contacts above-mentioned. Official Launch of the fleadh takes place on this Saturday night, 1st of April at 8 pm in Castlecoote Lodge. All sponsors are invited to attend.
A shuttle bus will operate during the fleadh. Particulars later.
