Frankie’s county call

The galacticco of Roscommon football Frankie Dolan used his victory speech after last Sunday’s County Final to urge Roscommon manager John Maughan to recall the high-profile players dropped from the county senior football panel two years ago. ‘I have a message for the management of the county football team today: pick the best players in the county and Roscommon will win the 2008 Connacht Championship,’ said Dolan to cheers from St. Brigid’s supporters. He was speaking after lifting the Fahy Cup at Dr. Hyde Park last Sunday afternoon. St. Brigid’s comfortably defeated St. Faithleach’s in the final to claim a third successive championship. It brought to an end a stellar weekend for the Kiltoom club, with St. Brigid’s ladies winning their third successive senior championship on Saturday in Knockcroghery. There were GAA celebrations in Woodmount and Rooskey this weekend too. Padraig Pearses won the County Minor Football Championship for the first time in 25 years at the Hyde on Sunday when they defeated St. Ciarán’s. On Saturday Kilglass Gaels won the Ladies Intermediate Football Championship in Knockcroghery.
