The former Burlington Atlantic Mills factory site at Tarmonbarry and Clondra has been sold subject to contract, according to local councillor Tom Crosby.
The site, which extends to more than 70 acres of former IDA development land, has reportedly been acquired by a new company. The identity of the proposed owner and its plans for the property have not yet been disclosed.
At its peak, the factory employed more than 600 people from Roscommon, Longford and Leitrim and produced denim for international clothing brands. It closed in the late 1990s.
Cllr Crosby described the development as positive news for the region and said he would support efforts to develop the site and create employment.
“I’m hopeful this marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this landmark location,” he said.
