Eight-bedroom development will include communal facilities and a takeaway coffee service
Conditional planning permission has been granted for the redevelopment of the former Post Office building on Shop Street in Boyle.
Roscommon County Council has approved plans submitted by Aaron Sharkey to alter, refurbish and change the use of the protected structure to an eight-bedroom hostel.
The proposed accommodation will include communal facilities and an ancillary takeaway coffee facility.
The development will also involve the demolition of an existing shed and the conversion of an outbuilding into storage space for the hostel, including a bicycle store, bin store and utility area.
A total of 12 conditions have been attached to the council’s planning permission.
The building was constructed in 1910 and operated as Boyle’s post office for more than a century.
The post office closed at the beginning of February, with services relocating to Kelly’s SuperValu in the town.
Roscommon County Council had requested further information about the proposed change of use in June before granting permission for the project this week.
