Forecast: Raining goals across Roscommon

As Leicester City strolled their way to the top of the Premier League in what has become the most remarkable story of an extremely unpredictable season, The Roscommon & District League also kept everyone guessing.

I put my neck out last week and boy was I wrong. Two correct predictions across the weekend means I was relieved the RDFL accumulator wasn’t available on Bet365!

In my defence, there were a few surprises, although with Ballinasloe Town, some things never change!

Before we get into this week’s much more accurate predictions, Jorge Mendes was allegedly spotted in Ballagh’ recently, and shortly thereafter the league lost quite a few goals as Dylan Edwards sealed a transfer deadline move up north to Ballinamallard in Enniskillen. We wish him well.

Saturday, 13th February – The Herald Premier Division (7.45 pm)

Castlerea Celtic v Ballaghaderreen FC

Ah a nice handy one to start off! Castlerea were impressive last weekend and with Ballaghaderreen still reeling from their heavy defeat to Ballinasloe, this is a great opportunity for the home side to leap-frog them. Prediction: Castlerea Celtic.

Ballinasloe Town v Cloonfad United

I don’t know what has been said in Ballinasloe over the last few weeks, but it has worked. Completely dominant last week in what is usually a close game, and this week shouldn’t be any different. Prediction: Ballinasloe Town.

Norio’s Takeaway Division 1 (7.45 pm) –

Shiven Rovers v Kilkerrin United

Shiven are ten points clear and destined for the Premier Division. This is one step closer. Prediction: Shiven Rovers.

Sunday, 14th February (Valentine’s Day lads; dedicating a goal to her probably doesn’t count!) – The Herald Premier Division (2 pm)

Dysart FC v Moore United

Dysart were beaten last weekend – convincingly –while Moore United simply must win to stay with Ballinasloe. Prediction: Moore United.

Ballymoe FC v MD Town

Ballymoe have surprised me. Their season still sits on a knife-edge with almost as many defeats as wins but they’ve won us over. Prediction: Ballymoe FC.

Norio’s Takeaway Division 1 (2 pm)

Rahara Rovers v Ballinasloe Town B

Rahara suffered last weekend and it’s difficult to see them winning this one. The visitors are well off Shiven and need to keep winning. Prediction: Ballinasloe Town B.

Ballaghaderreen FC B v Brazukas

Brazukas should redeem themselves this weekend. Prediction: Brazukas.

Glen Celtic v Ahascragh United

Home advantage should be enough for Glen as they look to close in on the Brazilians. Prediction: Glen Celtic.

Killeen Sports Ground Division 2 (2 pm)

St. John’s Athletic v Lough Harps

St. John’s have had a tough season and it won’t get any easier this weekend. Prediction: Lough Harps.

Moore United B v Moylough 79

The visitors scored 8 last weekend but their defence wasn’t exactly watertight, so this should be an entertaining game at least. Prediction: Moylough 79.

CP Ajax v KC Celtic

I fancy the Castleplunkett outfit to edge this, although given the form Celtic have been in this season nothing would surprise me. Prediction: CP Ajax.

Roscommon United v Skyvalley Rovers (12 pm)

Both sides were thumped last weekend. Goals galore this weekend. Prediction: Skyvalley Rovers.

As I write this it’s snowing in one half of Roscommon and raining in the other.

With 12 games down for decision, my final prediction is that no more than 4 will go ahead. Prove me wrong, grounds people!
