Football Chairperson extends his appreciation

County Football Board chairperson Michael McGuire added the Board’s congratulations to the team of 1965 and the players and management who brought such honour to Roscommon hurling in 2007.    Congratulating the players of the past and the present era, he said it was an historic night and one he was delighted to be associated with.    Praising the Roscommon management and players of 2007, Mr. McGuire said he wanted to wish them every success in their endeavours in the New Year.    He too wished to be associated with the tributes to Johnny Haughey and also wished to congratulate the County Hurling Board on how it conducts its affairs.    Mr. McGuire said that the County Hurling Board always has its finances in order and invariably in surplus and he commended that achievement in 2007, given all the demands there would have been on funds in that year.     Welcoming special guest Michael Duignan, Mr. McGuire commended him on his good work as an RTE analyst.  New County Secretary Christy wished well A number of speakers at Saturday night’s function wished new County Hurling Board secretary Christy McDermott the very best of luck in his new role. These included Roscommon manager David McConn, who said that he did not doubt Christy’s ability to follow in predecessor Johnny Haughey’s footsteps.  Remembering those who have passed on Canon Liam Devine, who said Grace before and after meals, asked guests to remember in their prayers the deceased players, mentors and officials associated with the 1965 team. He also asked that Pat Reynolds, of the Roscommon team which won the 1966 All-Ireland U-21 Football Final – who died before Christmas – be remembered in the prayers of those present.
