Five schools across Roscommon/Galway constituency are to be included in a new energy-efficiency upgrade pilot project.
Senator Maura Hopkins said that she had been informed of the development by Minister Richard Bruton.
“Local schools included are Cornafulla National School, Athlone; Dunmore Community School; Holy Rosary College, Mountbellew; Colaiste Mhuire, Ballygar and Lawrencetown National School.
“This is the third year of this pilot scheme and the target is a 33% energy-efficiency improvement for each school. Potential upgrades under the scheme include: doors and windows; insulation; lighting and heating upgrades, as well as renewable technologies.
“These upgrades, while improving energy-efficiency, will also have a very positive impact on the entire school community, creating a much more comfortable teaching and learning environment”.
