Finneran welcomes student finance website

It’s an age-old problem students trying to manage their finances, but there is some good news this week with the setting up of www.studentfinance.ie which aims to help students manage their own finances. The new site, established by the Higher Education Authority will empower Roscommon students to more effectively manage their own finances, according to local Fianna Fáil TD, Deputy Michael Finneran. ‘This website is a must-see for all students in Ireland today and indeed for school leavers who are preparing to take the step to college in autumn. Many students suffer financial constraints while at college, even those who are fortunate enough to get assistance from home, but what many of them do not know is that they may not be claiming all they are entitled to.’ ‘Studentfinance.ie is the first official website uniting information about the Grant with details of other support schemes. It is an easy-to-use guide of funding entitlements, some of which students may not be fully aware such as the Student Assistance Fund, the Back to Education Allowance and the Fund for Students with Disabilities.’ ‘It has a very helpful guide to the student maintenance grant, giving grant levels, income bands, and sample application forms. It also has finance information for people with family commitments who are returning to education, people with disabilities, and people from lower income backgrounds. I would like to encourage all students to take a look at this website,’ he said.
