Fianna Fáil TD in Roscommon Michael Finneran expressed sadness at Taoiseach Bertie Ahern’s plan to resign on May 6th and said that history will judge him favourably. Speaking from Washington, where he is leading a cross-party delegation as Chairman of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance and Public Service, Deputy Finneran said, ‘Bertie Ahern’s contribution to this nation is endless. He delivered a modern economy, sustainable growth and under his leadership Ireland has become an integral part of the European Union. ‘Bertie Ahern played an integral part in bringing the peace process to fruition and delivered on his objective to see a stable administration based on the power-sharing model take root in Northern Ireland. ‘I have no doubt history will judge him favourably and he will take his place among the great Irish patriots of the past. ‘I feel privileged to have worked with Bertie Ahern TD and I wish him every success for the future,’ concluded Michael Finneran TD.
