Film in Schools screening

The third local FIS school films screening event takes place in Roscommon Arts Centre on Tuesday June 17th at 12 noon. Five local schools have been busy scripting, filming and editing a short five-minute film relating to some aspect of the primary curriculum. The pupils are involved directly in all the work, creating the story idea, writing a script, role-playing, props, costumes, filming, sound, editing and burning the finished product to DVD. The pupils involved will be in attendance to watch the fruits of their labour on the big screen, an event which is always a very lively and joyful occasion. There are altogether over 100 primary schools from all over the country involved in the Film in School project with each of the 21 Education Centres working closely with 5 schools in each region.  Carrick-on-Shannon Education Centre, which meets the training needs of teachers in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon, is hosting this screening event and the schools involved are: St. Patrick’s BNS, Ballinamore; Scoil na Maighdine Mhuire, Carrick-on-Shannon; Scoil Eimear, Longford; Sacred Heart NS, Granard and St. Bride’s NS, Ballintubber, Roscommon. At least one of these films will be nominated to go forward to the FÍS National event in the Helix, Dublin in October.
