Feighan’s concern

The closure of the Dawn Meats plant in Ballaghaderreen was described as ‘lamentable’ by Deputy Frank Feighan this week. ‘The Dawn Meats plan for the amalgamation of the Ballaghaderreen and Ballyhaunis plants at the Ballyhaunis site, which will result in the loss of 80 jobs, is a hammer blow for Roscommon, especially since it follows the closure of Glanbia’s Rooskey plant in 2006 so that meat-processing jobs have been lost on both sides of the county. ‘Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin must ensure that all efforts are made to ensure that the Dawn Meats staff are able to find alternative employment within their area. I would urge the State agencies to ensure that re-training and re-skilling is offered to all staff to help them to find new work. ‘Roscommon has suffered significant job losses in recent years and Minister Martin must work with the IDA and Enterprise Ireland to attract new employers to the county.’
